Capsule Geology

The Chain occurrence is located northwest of the McLeod River and approximately 9.5 kilometres west-southwest of the community of McLeod Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks and mudstone, siltstone, shale and fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Triassic to Jurassic Takla Group.

The occurrence area is underlain by slate (mudstone) and dark-grey recrystallized limestone. This package is intruded by feldspar-quartz-biotite porphyry dikes. Locally, two areas were hand trenched in 2000 and revealed the following:

Trench 1) silicified limestone cut by low-angle faults that have quartz-cemented breccias and slickensides. These faults are cut by perpendicular shear zones that contain parallel quartz-ankerite-chalcopyrite-tetrahedrite veinlets. The silicified limestone, which was sampled by two 1-metre chip samples, assayed 0.17 gram per tonne gold and 3.8 grams per tonne silver, and 0.16 gram per tonne gold and 1.6 gram per tonne silver; the 1.0-metre interval that sampled quartz-ankerite-chalcopyrite-tetrahedrite veinlets returned 0.47 gram per tonne gold and 85 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 26462).

Trench 2) silicified limestone near a clay-altered feldspar-quartz-biotite porphyry dike has yellow-banded, sugary textured quartz veins in it. The exposed margin of the dike has a breccia composed of clasts of intrusive and silicified limestone. Trace amounts of pyrite occur in the quartz veins. A 50-centimetre chip sample of the breccia assayed 1.34 grams per tonne gold and 3.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 26462). Composite chip samples of silicified limestone yielded approximately 0.090 gram per tonne gold and 0.2 gram per tonne silver over 5 metres.

In 2010, two samples (T66 and T67) of graphitic phyllite with quartz veining and siliceous rock with pyrite yielded 0.467 and 0.252 gram per tonne gold, respectively, with up to 11.1 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 32274).

In 2021, a rock sample, taken a short distance west of the occurrence from a small outcrop of quartz veining cutting calcareous phyllite, assayed 1.91 grams per tonne (Assessment Report 39660).

Work History

In 1986, Plasway National Research Ltd. prospected and sampled the area. In 1989, Ezekiel Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area as the G North property. In 1990, a 124.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey was completed on the property.

In 2000, David Bridge conducted work on his Chain claims. Two hand trenches were completed, totalling 16 metres in length, 11 chip samples were collected and 1.1 kilometres of ground magnetic surveying was done. Bridge discovered two previously unknown showings on the claims.

In 2010, a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling was completed on the area as the Bragg property. In 2017, Jedway Enterprises Ltd. completed a photo-interpretation program and a 1.1 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area.

In 2020 and 2021, Golden Planet Mining Corp. completed a regionally extensive program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, till and soil) sampling and a 4851.0-line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Rider property.
